The Complimentary Design Consultation - Getting to Know You

The design consultation is the time to ask questions, see first-hand how various sizes of portraits look on the wall, touch and feel the quality of our products, and describe your decor.  Then we'll talk about those "quirky" family dynamics that endear you to each other.  Why do you want these photographs at this particular time, and what do you hope to convey to your children through these images?  Are there any concerns I should be aware of or be sensitive to?  Finally, we'll choose a session location that captures just the right environment and mood.  This can be outdoors, at our wheelchair-accessible studio, at your home, or any location that is special to you*.

The smartest way to prepare for your session is to decide WHERE you would enjoy the portraits the most.  Do you spend more time in the family room or in the living room? Would your kids feel safe and sleep more soundly with loving photographs on their bedroom walls?  You might even consider the dining room (that is where I display my own family portraits).  Throughout our website are ideas about how to decorate with your photographs. Notice how particularly nice it looks when the clothing coordinates with the room decor.

"What to wear" is usually the next question and I can help you there, too.

The Relaxed Portrait Session

Do you have a busy schedule?   I will photograph you any weekday or the weekend (at no extra charge).  Indoor session can be scheduled at any time of day.  Outdoor sessions begin about 2 hours before sunset so that we get the best light (photographer's call this the "golden light").

Being in front of a camera can seem a bit intimidating at first.  I get it.  I have felt the exact same way. But my top priority to put you at ease and help you relax.  I know that when you feel comfortable, you will look comfortable in your photos.  (So you'll just have to put up with my goofy antics to help you get there.)

First, we'll find a location with an interesting background and light that makes your eyes sparkle.  Next, we'll make any small "tweeks" to your body position to help ladies look slimmer and men look "hunkier".  I pay attention to all the details so you don't have to.

Then comes the "secret ingredient" that makes your portraits look natural, not staged -- I simply give you something to do. This moves the photos from posed to playful.  As you begin to have fun, you forget all about the camera.  People are most real and genuine when they are interacting together.  As you relax, your free spirited personality shines through.  Think of your photo session as a celebration of the best days of your life. The result is emotional imagery with the authentic expressions.

The "Big Reveal" View & Order Appointment

This is when you will first see your amazing images at almost life-size.  Enjoy a slide show of your best photographs, compare images side-by-side, and custom design your image collections in real-time with our state-of-the-art software.  This appointment lasts about an hour and is generally scheduled on a weekday evening about 7 days after your session.  Please plan to have all decision makers present because we do not post to on-line galleries.  (We offer Skype sessions for out-of-town clients).  Finished prints will be ready in 3 to 4 weeks and framed orders will be complete in 5 to 6 weeks.

Clients tell me over and over that this in-person ordering appointment is one of the best parts of their portrait experience with us.  Often they cannot envision how a little change in cropping will make their image pop.  When I show them how the final portrait will look, they are amazed at the difference and cannot wait to see the possibilities for other images.  Another advantage of this appointment is that you will be able to view your portraits at the actual dimensions they will appear on your wall.  This gives you peace of mind and makes it easy to decide which size is best for you.   In fact, you can even see how your photographs will look on your own wall.  Here's how.
